About Celebrate Life

"We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give."

-Winston Churchill

The Celebrate Life project was started by Angela Shea Photography in January of 2007. It was begun as a way to give back to the community. It started as a challenge to take an active roll in the lives of the people that surround you. To give a lasting gift, one that transcends the difficulties we experience in our lives...the gift of memories.

How it Works

It is very often that we come across people in our community who are going through something in their lives. Whether it be sickness, financial difficulties, recovery, a birth that has overcome great odds, an adoption or other hardships.

Celebrate life is a way for these families to be able to document this time in their lives, whether it be to leave behind memories for those they love or to commemorate a happy and joyful time.

Images that we take mean more than just a time and a place-they are a celebration of our lives.

" If these pictures have anything important to say to future generations, it is this: I was here, I was young, I was happy and someone cared enough about me in this world to take my picture."

-Mark Romanek

Celebrate life is a challenge to you to nominate your friends and family or those around you who are deserving of such a celebration. To take an active roll in the lives around you and notice the beauty in one another.

All Nominations will be considered. Only a few Nominations per year will be chosen for the Celebrate Life sessions.

The A Family- Charlotte NC Celebrate Life

I am a bit delayed in posting to the Celebrate Life blog these days. It has been a busy summer. I would like to share with you the A family. They are such a wonderful family and it was such a pleasure to meet them and photograph them. Little J is such a beauty and her brothers have so much character.

Sadly little A is now a little angel in the hands of God. She left this world a few weeks after our session. My thoughts and prayers are with their family. Even though I only met little J for a brief time she will always remain in my heart.

The N Family- Charlotte Celebrate Life

I was just so excited to meet the N family. They have such an amazing sprit! They have been though so much in the past few year. Julia has fought hard and is now in remission for a second time. I had so much fun at this session and left with a huge smile on my face and joy in my heart.

I have been thinking…

I have thought long and hard about how Celebrate Life will grow this year. I have also thought about how to define what Celebrate Life is. I have been blessed to be able to reach out to so many wonderful families in the Charlotte community and I know there are so many more and there are so many photographers out their willing to do the same. I have also heard of children and families in other communities in need of the gift of photography. Immediately my thoughts go to finding a photographer in their area. Some of the time I am so excited to hear that a talented photographer has already offered this amazing gift to them.

To me Celebrate Life is a network. A network of photographers all over the world ( I am hoping) that can give of their art in so many ways.

Weather it be to families in the community or fundraisers for charities in the community.

Celebrate life is an awareness of how a simple gift can mean so much.

I was recently asked how do other photographers join in.

Email me.

I will list your name on the photographers network.

You must be an established photographer with a full portfolio.

You must be willing to offer the items listed above as a “gift” to those who are nominated.

Post the Celebrate life link on your blog and add the celebrate life logo to your site.

You must also be actively aware of those in need in your community.

Photographers involved will be able to post images and stories on the Celebrate Life blog to bring awareness to the families cause.

Celebrate Life is a quiet undercurrent of giving… photographers giving through their art and making a difference in their community.

Celebrate Life- update session

I am truly blessed! I cannot say that enough when I talk about my Celebrate life families. They amaze me with their strength and love and in their kindness.

This past weekend I did an update session of the F family. They are the most wonderful family and I am happy to report that things with little D are going very well, he has overcome so much. Little H is growing so fast and is so beautiful. Here are a few images to tide them over until their gallery is ready.

A call for photographers

Join in and give!!!!

Celebrate Life- Charlotte nc

Throughout the past few years I have had the privilege of photographing so many wonderful families. Through Celebrate Life I have been able to give to so many wonderful families. I would like to take a moment to express how important I feel this gift of photography is to families who are going through so much. In these troubling economic times it is so important now more than ever to reach out to those in our community and it does not always have to be a monetary gift. Take a moment and nominate someone you feel is deserving of  a Celebrate Life session. Give the lasting gift of memories…

Just a few from this weekend Celebrate Life session. This is such a wonderful family. Carter is an amazing little man…full of energy and love of all the little things boys love to do. He loved throwing rocks in the water, playing 1…2…3 with mom and dad, giving little sister kisses, going down the slide with mom and dad. He kept us on our toes but it was worth it.

Here are a few I would like to share for now as I prepare their gallery:

Please take a moment and read about Carter’s story or perhaps make a donation to his family.
